ULLAS

ULLAS is an innovative scheme introduced by the Government of India with the purpose of enhancing India's literacy landscape over a five-year timeframe, from fiscal years 2022 to 2027. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and seeks to provide a comprehensive educational experience through the New India Literacy Programme. The program targets to enrich the lives of non-literate individuals aged 15 and above across all states and union territories.

The core aim of the initiative is to impart foundational literacy and numeracy skills, while also encompassing a vast array of educational facets necessary for modern citizenship. These include critical life skills such as financial literacy, digital literacy, vocational skills to aid in securing local employment, and basic education that allows learners to achieve middle and secondary stage equivalency.

Additionally, the scheme promotes continuing education by offering a diverse range of adult education courses in fields such as arts, sciences, technology, culture, sports, and recreation. These offerings also cater to specific local interests and provide more advanced content on critical life skills.

Accessible primarily through digital platforms, the program ensures that materials and resources are readily available to registered volunteers. The program leverages various digital channels, including television, radio, and cell phone-based apps or portals, to maximize reach and convenience.

To achieve its ambitious goal, the scheme targets to educate five crore learners over the course of five years, aiming for one crore learners per year. The Online Teaching, Learning, and Assessment System (OTLAS) drives the scheme and facilitates online teaching, learning, and assessment. Registration is straightforward, requiring essential personal information to create a user account.
